The Turn of the Screw “Sung Outstandingly” at the Staatsoper Berlin

Richard Croft’s role debut as Prologue/Peter Quint in the Staatsoper Unter den Linden’s company premiere of The Turn of the Screw has earned acclaim for an “excellent” performance “sung outstandingly,” according to KulturRadio RBB. RBB singled out the American tenor for his “wonderful return to the Staatsoper” in Britten’s haunting opera.

Likewise, the Berliner Zeitung wrote, “Richard Croft…lent seductive voice to [his] ghostly character,” adding that “in the end there was unanimous applause for a very good production.” The Financial Times added, “Richard Croft’s off-stage Quint is eerily seductive.… The whole is a musical feast and an understated provocation.”

The Turn of the Screw continues at the Staatsoper through December 5, with the next showing tomorrow, November 19.
